In response, the Jinnaram tahsildar acknowledged that while the assignees hold the pattas, records indicate that the land was previously taken possession of by the government.

SANGAREDDY: Villagers and assignees obstructed officials who arrived to take possession of assigned lands in survey No. 27 at Gaddapotharam village of Jinnaram Mandal on Wednesday.

Cops arrested 10 persons, took them to a nearby police station and released them later. Subsequently, officials began flattening the land using excavators.

Officials from the Revenue Department and TSIIC (Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation), accompanied by police, had reached the village on Wednesday morning to take possession of nine acres of land.

Upon their arrival, villagers, including the assignees, gathered at the site and began protesting. A heated argument ensued between the officials and assignees.

Officials are seen using excavators to
clear assigned lands on Wednesday

Farmers argued that they had been cultivating the land for the past 17 years, and there was an ongoing court case regarding this land, making it inappropriate for authorities to forcibly take possession.

In response, the Jinnaram tahsildar acknowledged that while the assignees hold the pattas, records indicate that the land was previously taken possession of by the government.

According to revenue records, the land is categorised as state-owned, and if the court decides in favour of the assignees, it will be returned to them.

The government sold Rs 5 cr/acre land at Rs 1 cr/acre to pvt industries:

Addressing the situation, sarpanch Prakash Chari criticised the officials for taking possession of the land and damaging crops. He alleged that the previous government sold nine acres of land in the village to four private industries at a significantly lower price through TSIIC. While the current land rate is approximately Rs 5 crore per acre, it was sold for only Rs 1 crore per acre during the previous administration, he added.

The sarpanch raised concerns about potential corruption behind the sale of valuable government land. He said that it is unjust for the government to forcefully take over land where farmers are cultivating crops and requested the revenue minister for an inquiry into the matter. Meanwhile, Jinnaram police said that no cases have been registered against the 10 persons.

The incident reportedly came as a reaction to the government’s failure to pay the rent.

ADILABAD: Protests by students and teachers of a government school erupted in Dharampalli village in Dhaba gram panchayat in Chintalamanapelli mandal of Kumurambheem Asifabad district on Thursday, following the closure of the rented house by the owner, where the school operated.

The incident reportedly came as a reaction to the government’s failure to pay the rent of the house. In a village devoid of schools, educators are forced to run their classes within leased premises. Despite several appeals made by the house owner, the rent remained unpaid for almost seven months. Following this, the owner locked the rooms.

Students and teachers who came to the school were taken aback by the locked doors, leading to protests in front of the school and on certain sections of the road, causing traffic congestion. Later, the teachers
commenced their classes in an open area. When contacted, no response was received from the Kumurambheem Asifabad district education officer.

The total debts of the power utilities increased from Rs 7,622 crore to Rs 81, 516 crore from 2014 to 2023.

HYDERABAD: Former energy minister G Jagadish Reddy on Thursday said that though TS Discoms borrowed money, they also developed assets and repaid 50% of the borrowed amount. The total debts of the power utilities increased from Rs 7,622 crore to Rs 81, 516 crore from 2014 to 2023.

During the same period, the assets of the power utilities increased from Rs 31,923 crore to Rs 1,37,571 crore, Jagadish Reddy pointed out. Stating that the BRS government repaid debts of around Rs 55,000 crore, he insisted that the state government order a probe on the power sector either by a sitting judge or by a commission.

Participating in the short discussion on the power sector in the Assembly, Jagadish Reddy said that the Congress government admitted in its white paper that the average power supply for the agriculture sector in 2014-15 was six hours and it was 19.22 hours in 2023-24.

“It means that the allegations of the Congress that the BRS supplied only 12-hour power to farmers were false,” Jagadish Reddy said. However, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka clarified that they never mentioned in the white paper that the BRS government provided 24x7 power to farmers. Legislative Affairs Minister D Sridhar Babu termed it as peak demand, while another Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said that the BRS supplied power to farmers only for 12 hours.

Reacting to this, Jagadish wanted the ministers to sit and discuss to get unanimity on the 24X7 power supply. The white paper clearly stated that the average power supply to the agriculture sector was 19.22 hours. “Is the government telling lies to the people through the white paper? If the figure is wrong, then the government should withdraw the white paper and release a fresh one,” Jagadish Reddy demanded. He said that the BRS government borrowed money to develop the power sector, which is why the power situation was better in the state.

Jagadish said that before the formation of the state, the people used to depend on kerosene lamps. However, Sridhar Babu denied the allegation. “Jagadish Reddy is trying to give a picture that the people of the state started using power only after the formation of Telangana,” Sridhar Babu said.

During the debate, R&B Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy alleged that Jagadish Reddy was a ‘namesake’ energy minister and the then Transco and Genco CMD D Prabhakar Rao used to call the shots in the department. “Jagadish Reddy was just a sub-contractor in Yadadri power plant and earned Rs 10,000 crore,” Venkat Reddy alleged.

Countering this, Jagadish Reddy said he was ready for any kind of probe. He alleged that those who switched their political loyalties for the sake of contracts were now levelling baseless charges.
However, MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy said he changed the party for the sake of the people. “Even KCR changed political parties three times,” he said.

Revanth said that Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, who also holds the Energy portfolio, will issue proceedings for the judicial inquiry.

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday announced that his government would order a judicial probe into the ‘misdeeds’ of the previous BRS government in the power sector. The judicial probe will look into three aspects — a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Chhattisgarh government and the construction of the Bhadradri and Yadadri power plants.

Making this announcement in the Assembly, Revanth said that Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, who also holds the Energy portfolio, will issue proceedings for the judicial inquiry. The chief minister also announced that an inquiry by an all-party fact-finding committee would be ordered to look into whether or not the BRS government provided 24x7 power to farmers.

Speaking during the short discussion on ‘Telangana State Power Sector - White Paper’, Revanth termed the Chhattisgarh PPA a “scam” and said that it was signed without inviting tenders. There were even cases in the Chhattisgarh Electricity Regulatory Commission and the probe would also look into them, he said.

On Bhadradri, the chief minister said that Gujarat-based Indiabulls proposed to construct a 1,080 MW power plant. “However, at that time, the Centre changed the policy and directed states to construct thermal power plants using only supercritical technology. Then, Indiabulls, which already placed purchase orders with BHEL, wanted its money back. BHEL refused to return the amount and began searching for another ‘useless fellow’ so that the money could be returned to Indiabulls,” Revanth explained.

“The BRS government then came forward to take over the outdated subcritical equipment for Bhadradri. The BRS government spent Rs 10,000 crore on the plant,” he pointed out, alleging that public money was looted in the name of Bhadradri.

The CM said the Yadadri agreement was also signed without inviting tenders. The project was delayed and the construction cost increased abnormally, he said. The probe would look into all aspects — from entering into an agreement with BHEL to the developments that took place in Yadadri to date, he added.

Siddipet, Gajwel & Old City top defaulters

Siddipet, Gajwel and Hyderabad South were in the top three positions in the non-payment of power dues in the state, Revanth said. Siddipet stood first with 61.37% dues followed by Gajwel (50.29%) and Hyderabad South 43%, he said. The chief minister said that T Harish Rao, K Chandrasekhar Rao and Akbaruddin Owaisi should take responsibility for getting defaulters to pay the dues in Siddipet, Gajwel and Hyderabad South respectively.

Revanth recalled that the BRS government signed an MoU on November 3, 2014, with the Chhattisgarh government for 1,000 MW of power. Chhattisgarh stopped the power supply and the state incurred huge losses, he said, adding that it was a “scam”.

“When we opposed the MoU with Chhattisgarh, we were suspended from the Assembly and marshals lifted us,” Revanth recalled. When an employee exposed the lapses in Chhattisgarh MoU, he was transferred to a remote place, he recalled. Finally, the burden on the government due to the MoU with Chhattisgarh was Rs 1,362 crore, he said.

Reacting to former Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy’s demand to order any kind of inquiry into the alleged misdeeds, the chief minister said: “I welcome and appreciate the former energy minister. I am announcing a judicial inquiry into the power sector, which will look into three aspects.”

Revanth alleged that the erstwhile BRS government utilised farmer suicides and insufficient power supply to the agriculture sector for its financial benefit. “Srisailam hydel power generation tunnel exploded and nine persons were killed due to the government’s negligence. Congress supported the family of Fatima who died in the accident,” Revanth said.

PAC to write to Kharge to allot a ticket to the CPP chief to contest LS elections from state

HYDERABAD: The Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of Telangana Congress has passed a unanimous resolution to request Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) chairperson Sonia Gandhi to contest from Telangana in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. TPCC president and Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, AICC Telangana in-charge Manikrao Thakre, and several ministers took part in the meeting in which the resolution was passed.

Additionally, Revanth said that the party leaders, who made a sacrifice and didn’t contest  the Assembly elections, would be given nominated chairman posts in different corporations immediately, said sources. Revanth indicated that the leaders would get their second term in office after completing two years in the first term. However, the complete appointments of nominated posts would be after the conclusion of the Lok Sabha elections.

Informing the decisions to the media, senior party leader Md Ali Shabbir said that they will write a letter to AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge requesting him to allot a Lok Sabha seat from Telangana to Sonia Gandhi. He noted that former prime minister Indira Gandhi was elected from Medak.During the three-hour-long meeting, the party prepared an action plan for the government to pursue the implementation of various schemes including six guarantees — the pre-poll promises of the Congress.

The party has decided to conduct Grama Sabha in every village to identify the beneficiaries of ration cards, domestic gas subsidy, Cheyutha pensions and housing schemes on December 28, coinciding with the grand old party’s formation day. The Grama Sabha will take applications for the schemes under six guarantees.

They have also passed two other resolutions thanking the people of the state, and the party high command.During the meeting, Vikramarka, who also holds the Finance portfolio explained the financial situation of the state, while Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy explained the status of the ongoing projects.

The council of ministers informed the PAC that they would be releasing white papers on the status of state finances, irrigation and energy sectors. The PAC has also decided to appoint a minister as the in-charge of each Lok Sabha segment as part of the preparations for the 2024 General Elections. They have also decided to declare the candidates for Lok Sabha elections as early as possible.

He has also informed the PAC members of his government’s approach to “expose” the corruption in various schemes and projects of the former BRS government. Revanth also told them of his inclination to revive the system of in-charge ministers to the districts to implement and monitor the implementation of welfare schemes, according to sources. The TPCC chief said that development should be uniform even in the Assembly segments where the Congress didn’t win.

Additionally, Shabbir said that they have decided on the dates of implementing the six guarantees and would announce them in the ongoing Assembly session. He also said that they would declare the candidates for Lok Sabha segments after Sankranti. Meanwhile, some of the ministers were absent from the meeting owing to other official engagements.

The former RBI governor met with Telangana CM, it is significant due to the fact the government has decided to release a white paper on state finances.

HYDERABAD: Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Raghuram Rajan met Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy here on Sunday. Rajan reportedly advised Revanth to strike a balance between welfare and development. He said the implementation of welfare schemes should not have any negative impact on the spending for development, according to sources.

Rajan’s meeting with Revanth assumed significance as the government has decided to release a white paper on state finances. The state government is of the view that its greatest challenge is to improve the financial situation of the state.

There are also talks that the state government might convene a conference on state finances after the completion of the Legislative Assembly session, and invite Rajan for the same. Rajan, who served as the chief financial advisor in the previous Union government, shared his experiences in the field of economics with Revanth in the meeting. The former RBI governor and the chief minister discussed the present economic condition of the state and the strategies needed for economic development.

Veterans leaders Jana Reddy, Hanumantha Rao too in the mix for three seats to be vacated in April next year

HYDERABAD: The state unit of Congress is going to face testing times in the coming days as intense lobbying has begun for three Rajya Sabha seats, which will fall vacant in April when the term of three MPs — Joginapally Santosh Kumar, Vaddiraju Ravi Chandra and B Lingaiah Yadav — ends

The Congress, which came to power for the first time after formation of Telangana by winning 64 seats in the recent Assembly elections, can easily win two Rajya Sabha seats and the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) one. The ruling Congress can also count on its ally CPI, which has one seat in the Assembly, for support.

There are a handful of veteran leaders who are aspiring for membership in the Upper House such as former ministers K Jana Reddy, Mandava Venkateshwara Rao, former MPs V Hanumantha Rao, KVP Ramachandra Rao, AICC secretary G Chinna Reddy and Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) president Prof M Kodandaram.

Jana Reddy chose not to contest in the recent Assembly elections and got a Congress ticket for his son Jaiveer Reddy, who went on to win the Nagarjunasagar seat. The veteran leader wants to round off his long political career by serving in national politics.

V Hanumanata Rao, well known as VHR in political circles, is also hoping to get a nomination to the Upper House because of unwavering loyalty to the grand old party and the support he extended to A Revanth Reddy to become TPCC   chief and subsequently as chief minister of the state.

Former minister G Chinna Reddy, who sacrificed his Wanaparthy Assembly seat to newcomer Megha Reddy, paving the way for the latter’s victory, is also expecting a Rajya Sabha seat.

Another prominent leader from the Congress who is eyeing a Rajya Sabha seat is former MP KVP Ramcahandra Rao. He was a close associate of former CM of undivided Andhra Pradesh late YS Rajasekhara Reddy. Former minster Mandava Venkateswara Rao, who joined the Congress just days before the Assembly elections, is also among the aspirants for the membership of the Upper House.

Will Congress fulfill the promise made to TJS president?

TJS chief and former Osmania University professor Kodandaram, who extended unconditional support to the Congress in the recent Assembly elections, stands a good chance of being nominated to the Rajya Sabha as former AICC president Rahul Gandhi is reported to have assured a prominent position for him.
The Congress, which is in an euphoric mood after dethroning the BRS in the state, may find the exercise of selecting candidates for the Upper House a tricky one, considering rival claims from prominent leaders with strong loyalty to the grand old party over the years.

The Karimnagar MP also demanded that the passports of all retired officers who worked in the Chief Minister’s Office, too, should be seized.

KARIMNAGAR: BJP general secretary Bandi Sanjay on Saturday urged officials to seize the passports of all BRS leaders, including former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s family members. “Otherwise, the BRS leaders will flee the country,” he alleged.

Addressing a meeting of BJP Parliamentary Party leaders in Karimnagar, Sanjay alleged that the BRS leaders looted public money and indulged in massive corruption. “The passports of all BRS MLAs and KCR’s family members should be seized,” he demanded.

The Karimnagar MP also demanded that the passports of all retired officers who worked in the Chief Minister’s Office, too, should be seized. “If they left the country, the government wouldn’t be able to take action against them,” he said.Sanjay said that KCR, who is unwell, could be exempted from this till he recovers. The BJP MP also alleged that several BRS leaders, including KCR’s family members, BRS MLAs and former ministers had indulged in massive corruption. “They should be punished,” he said.

The BJP leader told the party workers they could expect Lok Sabha elections any time. “The country is witnessing a Modi wave and Modi would form the government for the third time by winning 350 Lok Sabha seats. There is a Modi wave in Telangana too,” Sanjay said, adding that the contest would be between the BJP and Congress while the BRS would be nowhere in the picture in the state.

Tamilisai said that the government was on the job of identifying lacunae that took place in financial management.

HYDERABAD: Stating that the people have given a clear verdict in the recently concluded elections to liberate themselves from 10 years of repression, Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Friday said that the greatest challenge before the government was to improve the financial situation in the state on a war footing.

Addressing the joint session of the Legislature, she said: “Telangana is breathing a fresh air of freedom. People have freed it from autocratic rule. The iron barricades that divided rulers from the people have been dismantled. People’s governance has begun”.

Tamilisai said that the government was on the job of identifying lacunae that took place in financial management. She also said all institutions have been destroyed in the last nine-and-a-half years. Stating that power utilities are in a deep financial crisis with a staggering debt of Rs 81,516 crore, she said every department has incurred huge debts as loans were raised indiscriminately.

Tamilisai said that the government will order an inquiry into the irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project.
The Governor added that the state government plans to divide the state into three zones — Hyderabad city inside the Outer Ring Road, the area between the ORR and the proposed Regional Ring Road, and the area outside the RRR.

Addressing the joint session of the State Legislature, Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan said: “The message of the people is clear and loud. I appreciate the collective wisdom of the people. Telangana is breathing fresh air of freedom and liberty now. Telangana is liberated from autocratic rule and dictatorial tendencies. The people’s verdict unequivocally stated that they would not tolerate any repression.”

“This verdict is a cornerstone for civil rights and democratic rule. The iron barricades that divided rulers from the people have been dismantled. I feel proud to say that glass houses and obstacles have been removed and true people’s governance has begun,” she said.

Tamilisai said that the government was on the job of identifying lacunae that took place in financial management, where wasteful expenditure was incurred and financial irregularities took place.
“Without putting a financial burden on the people, we want to bring in financial prudence and offer governance and welfare to the people. This is our government’s aim and goal,” she said.

The Governor said all institutions have been destroyed in the last nine and a half years. “The institutions and organisations that should have worked democratically have been unfortunately degraded to serving individuals. Institutions indulging in individual worship does not augur well for democracy,” she said.

Power utilities in deep crisis

Due to the misgovernance of the previous government, the power utilities are in a deep financial crisis with a staggering debt of Rs 81,516 crore, the Governor said. She said that the power utilities have incurred losses of Rs 50,275 crore. Similarly, the Civil Supplies Corporation faces Rs 56,000 crore debt and Rs 11,000 crore in losses.

“Each and every department has incurred huge debts. Loans were raised indiscriminately from every Corporation, which pushed the state into a financial mess and crisis. The entire financial discipline in the state is destroyed. There is no fiscal discipline or financial prudence. My government is focused on strengthening the derailed financial situation. We will place before the people the financial condition of each and every department by releasing white papers and showing them the real facts. As assured during the elections, we will take up an action plan to give pattas to assigned and podu lands,” she said.

The Governor said that as assured to the people, the government would order an inquiry into the irregularities committed, lack of quality, and corruption in the construction of Medigadda and Annaram barrages of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme(KLIS).

“My government is committed to protecting and getting Telangana’s rightful share in Krishna river. Our aim is to get national status for the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy Irrigation project,” the Governor said.

Two lakh jobs in one year

She said that the government would take steps to fill up two lakh vacancies within one year. “We will fill up teacher posts by conducting a mega DSC within six months. The government has already begun the exercise to clean up the TSPSC,” the Governor said.

She said that an action plan was being prepared to provide house sites to the homeless and give Rs 5 lakh financial assistance for the construction of houses under the Indiramma Housing Scheme. Under this scheme, SCs and STs would get an additional Rs 1 lakh.

The Governor also highlighted the newly launched Rajiv Arogyasri, free travel for women in RTC buses. “The government will lay out a definite and time-bound action plan to implement other guarantees such as Mahalakshmi, Rythu Bharosa, Gruha Jyothi, Indiramma houses, Yuva Vikasam and Cheyutha within 100 days. Promises made under the Mahalakshmi scheme will be implemented very soon,” she said.

TS to be divided into 3 zones

The Governor said: “The government is planning to divide the state into three zones with Hyderabad as the centre. One zone is Hyderabad city, which is inside the Outer Ring Road. The second zone is the area between the ORR and the proposed Regional Ring Road. The third zone is outside the RRR. The government will prepare plans accordingly.”

Qureshi said that no notice was issued to his father regarding the acquisition of the land and an award was passed on January 12, 1990, by the land acquisition officer.

HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court on Thursday dismissed a writ petition claiming ownership of 31 acres of prime land in various survey numbers at Shamshabad of Rangareddy district by ruling that the petitioner failed to approach the court with “clean hands”. In its ruling, a bench comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice NV Shravan Kumar said that petitioner  Mohammad Yahiya Qureshi, a resident of Falaknuma in Hyderabad, was not entitled to any relief.

Qureshi had moved the high court alleging that the respondents, particularly the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), were interfering in his peaceful possession and enjoyment of the said land. Qureshi claimed to be the son of the late Mohammed Farooq Qureshi, who was issued a sale certificate on January 27, 1968. The petitioner asserted that his father owned and was in possession of the land on the strength of the sale certificate. The legal dispute arose when the state government acquired over 216 acres, including the 31 acres claimed by Qureshi, to establish a truck terminal-cum-wholesale market.

Qureshi said that no notice was issued to his father regarding the acquisition of the land and an award was passed on January 12, 1990, by the land acquisition officer. Senior counsel V Venkataramana, representing the petitioner, contended that the relief sought in the writ petition is based on the sale certificate issued in 1968 and pointed out that the petitioner’s father’s name was consistently recorded as the owner and possessor of the land in various documents, including sethwar and pahanis from 1959 up to 2007.

On the other hand, counsel for the HMDA informed the court that the petitioner submitted forged receipts to claim the land. These alleged receipts falsely indicated the payment of house tax since 2007, mentioning the existence of Telangana state in the same year, though the state was formed in 2014. After considering the arguments, the court ruled that the petitioner was not entitled to any relief.“Those seeking extraordinary discretionary jurisdiction must approach the court with “clean hands”. The petitioner failed to meet this standard,” the judgement said.

The petitioners contended that students who had already secured seats in previous rounds were allowed to participate in the stray round and were subsequently allotted seats.

HYDERABAD: A bench of the Telangana High Court, comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice J Anil Kumar, dismissed two petitions on Wednesday challenging the methods employed by Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences  (KNRUHS) in conducting a stray round of counselling on September 27 to fill vacant MBBS and BDS seats. The petitions were filed by two students from Andhra Pradesh, in which they questioned the validity of admissions made during the stray counselling round.

The petitioners contended that students who had already secured seats in previous rounds were allowed to participate in the stray round and were subsequently allotted seats. The issue gained attention when students, purportedly included in the stray round, appeared before the court claiming ignorance of their participation. A Prabhakar Rao, counsel for KNRUHS, clarified that the students who had been selected in previous rounds would remain in their respective colleges. He explained that although subsequent rounds typically disallow participation for those already selected, the software programme automatically adjusted the category of students based on their original options.

Rao said, “The unreserved seats which were vacated by the students in the sliding method were filled with local candidates. The category of the students who already joined in the previous rounds will get slided in tune with their option.” He said that any change in the nature of the seat would not be directly communicated to the student but to the respective college.

After considering the explanations provided by the university’s counsel, the bench concluded that the university had followed a lawful procedure in the stray round admissions. It found no procedural lapses and said that the petitioners had not presented a case warranting the court’s intervention.

The Achampet LIS was intended to lift water from the Yedulla reservoir.

HYDERABAD: The Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) wanted the Telangana irrigation department to submit the detailed project report of the Achampet Lift Irrigation Scheme, which was objected to by the Andhra Pradesh government.

The Achampet LIS was intended to lift water from the Yedulla reservoir.

“Andhra Pradesh government in its letter on August 18 brought to the notice of the KRMB that the Telangana government has accorded administrative sanction for Achampet Lift Irrigation Scheme which envisages transfer of water from Yedula reservoir of PRLIS system.

As per Section 85(8)(d) and para (7) of the Eleventh Schedule of the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, no new project can be taken up by the States without getting the project proposal appraised, technically cleared by KRMB/CWC and recommended by KRMB before sanction by the Apex Council.

Party won 3 seats in last polls, now it wants to clinch as many as segments as possible

HYDERABAD: The Congress, which is in an upbeat mood after winning the Telangana Assembly elections, is looking at the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls with a new sense of confidence, hoping that it would repeat its performance.

All the three seats that the Congress bagged in the last Lok Sabha elections have fallen vacant now with incumbent MPs having won the election to the  Assembly. They are A Revanth Reddy (Malkajgiri), N Uttam Kumar Reddy (Nalgonda) and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy (Bhongir). Now they will have to ensure that the Congress retains the three seats in the Lok Sabha elections and help the party pick up more number of seats of the total 17 segments in the state.

The grand old party is also focusing on Lok Sabha constituencies where it is weak. For instance, the party is very weak in Adilabad with no leader worth his salt to win the election. The seat is now held by BJP’s Soyam Bapu Rao, who contested unsuccessfully in the recent Assembly polls from Boath.
In Nizamabad too, the party is looking for a suitable leader, including Madhu Yaskhi Goud who lost the Assembly election from LB Nagar. He had represented Nizamabad in Lok Sabha in 2004–09 and 2009–2014. In 2014, he lost the election to Kalvakutla Kavitha, daughter of former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. In 2019, BJP’s Dharmapuri Arvind won the election from Nizamabad, defeating  Kavitha with Madhu Yaskhi finishing a distant third.

In Karimnagar, the party faces trouble due to  lack of potential leaders. However, it is hopeful that there might be a difference this time with the party doing well in the Assembly elections in four of the seven Assembly segments in Karimnagar LS constituency. At present it is being represented by BJP’s Bandi Sanjay Kumar, who lost his election to the Assembly recently from Karimnagar to a BRS candidate. MLC T Jeevan Reddy is being tipped for the seat.

In Peddapalli, the Congress is considering A Chandrasekhar, who contested and lost the election to the Assembly from Zaheerabad constituency. The party has swept all seven Assembly segments in the Peddapalli Lok Sabha constituency in the recent Assembly elections.

Former Union Minister of State Balaram Naik is likely to contest from Mahabubabad Lok Sabha seat. He was elected from the same constituency in the past. For Khammam, former Union Minister Renuka Chowdhury would be the obvious choice. She is already preparing her cadre for the election.
The grand old party is planning to field Addanki Dayakar from Warangal. He might get the ticket because he is close to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. In Bhongir, party vice-president Chamala Kiran Reddy is likely to get the ticket because of his proximity to Rahul Gandhi and Revanth Reddy, and also State Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy.

From Nalgonda, Patel Ramesh Reddy, who was denied the ticket for the Suryapet Assembly seat twice, is likely to be fielded in the Lok Sabha elections. He is very close to the chief minister.

Feroz Khan or Ali Masqati in Owaisi’s stronghold

Youth Congress leader Anil  Kumar Yadav might be fielded from the Secunderabad seat. His father was elected from the same constituency twice in the past. Anil also contested in the Assembly election from Musheerabad but lost the seat.

From Hyderabad Lok Sabha, the party might favour either Feroz Khan or Ali Bin Ibrahmim Masqati. But it is a stronghold of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi. From Chevella, the obvious choice for the party is former MLA Kichenagari Laxma Reddy, who contested unsuccessfully from Maheswaram Assembly segment in the recent elections.

From Mahbubnagar, the party is likely to field former MLA and AICC secretary Dr Vamshi Chand Reddy, who contested in 2019 and lost. Party sources stated that he sacrificed his sitting segment for Kasireddy Narayan Reddy from Kalwakurthy, who was elected to the Assembly in the recent election.
For Nagarkurnool, the party might consider former MP Mallu Ravi but AICC secretary and former MLA SA Sampath Kumar is also interested in it. Mallu Ravi is close to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and is the brother of Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.

In Medak, the party might nominate former MLA T Jayaprakash Reddy. He recently lost his election to the Assembly from Sangareddy. For Zaheerabad Lok Sabha seat, former MP Suresh Shetkar is likely to be given the ticket. He was an aspirant for the Narayankhed Assembly ticket. Then there is Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituency from where former MLA Mynampalli Hanumantha Rao might be fielded. He recently lost his election to the Assembly from Malkajgiri.

For most of those who jumped ship from the Congress to the BRS, the reason was that the grand old party did not fulfil their aspirations of a ticket.

HYDERABAD: Leaders who defected from the Congress to join the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) before the elections are now regretting their decision.

For most of those who jumped ship from the Congress to the BRS, the reason was that the grand old party did not fulfil their aspirations of a ticket. Unfortunately for some, they made the mistake of blaming TPCC chief A Revanth Reddy for their departure and criticised him mercilessly.

Needless to say, they are now regretting their decisions as the Congress emerged victorious in the state.
These leaders, who spent many years opposing the then ruling BRS and then joined it on the eve of the election, once again find themselves on the wrong side of the fence. The victory of Congress has put the political futures of former MLAs, sitting ZPTC, MPPs, corporators, and other leaders in jeopardy and they face the prospect of another five years in the opposition, which is both financially draining and arduous.

According to sources, many of these leaders are contemplating a return to the Congress where their erstwhile colleagues are now in power and discussing their next course of action with their close followers and well-wishers.

However, their rejoining the Congress may be complicated, given the harsh words they had uttered against Revanth, who is now the chief minister. How he responds is the topic of discussion in political circles now.

It may be recalled that the BRS in 2019 laid the foundation stone for the construction of new buildings for the Legislative Assembly and Council. However, the Telangana HC issued stay orders.

HYDERABAD: The state government on Sunday decided to demolish the existing Legislative Council building and construct a new structure in its place. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy took a decision to this effect. This information was disclosed by Roads and Buildings (R&B) Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy.Speaking to reporters after assuming charge as minister, Venkat Reddy said new buildings would also come up for floor leaders and others in place of old ones.

The beautification works would be carried out for the entire stretch from the legislative party office buildings to Lalitha Kalatoranam, he added. It may be recalled that the BRS government in 2019 laid the foundation stone for the construction of new buildings for the Legislative Assembly and Council at Irrum Manzil. However, the Telangana High Court issued stay orders on the demolition of the heritage buildings.
The BRS government wanted to construct integrated Assembly and Council buildings with an estimated budget of Rs 100 crore. However, due to the court stay, the plan didn’t materialise.

Now, the Congress government has decided to construct a new building at the same place by demolishing the old one. Meanwhile, the Council session will be held temporarily at the old Assembly building, which is a heritage structure. Meanwhile, Venkat Reddy also said that he would soon meet Union Minister of Road Transport and Highway Nitin Gadkari to discuss pending issues.

Venkat Reddy on Sunday sanctioned Rs 100 crore for the four-laning works of the Nalgonda-Mushampally- Dharmapuram road in Nalgonda district. He also sanctioned Rs 4.15 crore for the strengthening of the Lingampally-Dudyal road in Vikarabad district.

He said he would take up with Gadkari the issues relating to the upgradation of 14 state roads into national highways including, the Mallepally-Nalgonda road, Regional Ring Road (RRR), and the Choutuppal-Amangal-Shadnagar-Sangareddy road, apart from the six-laning of the Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway.
The minister said that he would also take up issues like the completion of balance works of the Nakrekal - Nagarjunasagar road in Nalgonda, four-laning of the Hyderabad - Kalwakurthy section of NH-765 and an increase in allocation of Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) budget to Telangana.

However, it is learnt that a couple of ministers were unhappy with the allocation of portfolios.

HYDERABAD: The state government issued a gazette notification allocating portfolios to ministers, immediately after Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy submitted a list to Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, on Saturday. The chief minister, apart from General Administration and Law and Order, will also hold the Municipal Administration & Urban Development (MA&UD) portfolio.

Revanth holding the MA&UD portfolio assumes significance as the TPCC chief had earlier opposed the leasing of the Outer Ring Road on a Toll, Operate and Transfer basis for a sum of `7,380 crore to IRB Infrastructure Developers for 30 years. He had levelled serious allegations of corruption against the then MA&UD minister KT Rama Rao and also against top officials. The HMDA had even served legal notices to Revanth, asserting that it acted in a transparent manner and followed the procedure laid down by the National Highways Authority of India. It remains to be seen whether the Congress government will cancel the lease.

Meanwhile, the crucial portfolios of Finance and Revenue have been handed over to Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, respectively. D Sridhar Babu, Manthani MLA, will succeed Rama Rao as the IT minister. Besides IT, Sridhar would also hold Industries & Commerce and Legislative Affairs portfolios. As the Congress has only one member in the Council, Sridhar needs to have better floor coordination with other Opposition members in the Council to ensure the passage of Bills, said analysts.

The Cabinet composition also considered the caste equations. There are four ministers from the Reddy community. There are two BCs, two SCs and one each from Brahmin, Velama, Kamma and ST communities. However, it is learnt that a couple of ministers were unhappy with the allocation of portfolios. The chief minister is reportedly working to address their concerns.

Under the Rajiv Arogyasri health scheme, the poor would get financial coverage of Rs 10 lakh; under 'Mahalakshmi' scheme, women can travel for free in Transport Corporation buses

Hyderabad, Dec 9 (PTI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday launched two schemes - free bus travel for women and health insurance of Rs 10 lakh to the poor - which are part of the six poll 'guarantees' announced by the Congress.

The launch coincides with the birthday of Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

Revanth Reddy commenced the two schemes in the Legislative Assembly premises here in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, several ministers, AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi who is the Pro Tem Speaker in the new Assembly and other dignitaries.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said the way Sonia Gandhi fulfilled her guarantee of formation of Telangana state, the Congress government would strive to make Telangana a state known for people's welfare and development by implementing the six poll 'guarantees' within 100 days.

He described December 9 as a day of festival for Telangana as it was on December 9, 2009 that the then UPA government had announced the formation of Telangana.

It was Sonia Gandhi who made Telangana state a reality like a mother as per people's aspirations, he said.

Under the Rajiv Arogyasri health scheme, the poor would get financial coverage of Rs 10 lakh.

Under the 'Mahalakshmi' scheme, women can travel free of cost in the state-run Road Transport Corporation (RTC) buses.

On the occasion, Revanth Reddy handed over a cheque of Rs two crore to ace boxer Nikhat Zareen on behalf of the state government as an incentive.

Nikhat Zareen thanked the government for the Rs two crore incentive and said it would help in preparing for the Paris Olympics.

Nikhat Zareen, who hails from Nizamabad in Telangana, said she would like to work hard and get a good name for the state.
